Wheels of Fleet is Hiring!

Wheels of Fleet is a well-established community cycling project based in Gatehouse of Fleet. For over ten years, the project has encouraged people of all ages to choose cycling for short and medium journeys in and around the town. Over the past decade, Wheels has grown significantly, expanding its facilities and range of activities with the support of grants from a variety of organisations.

Located near the town centre and beside the Mill on the Fleet visitor centre, Wheels offers a wide range of services, including bike hire, maintenance and refurbishment of both conventional and electric bikes, and the sale of affordable second-hand bikes. Qualified mechanics support and mentor volunteers, helping to build valuable skills within the local community.

The project also organises regular social rides for adults and children and runs a weekly Bike Bus to help children cycle safely to the local primary school—initiatives made possible through the support of a dedicated volunteer team.

To help take the project forward, Wheels of Fleet is now recruiting a Project Co-ordinator. This role is fully funded for twelve months, with the aim of developing the project into a financially self-sustaining community service. The successful candidate will play a key part in building on the project’s success, supporting both local residents and visitors to choose cycling for everyday travel.

We welcome applications from individuals who are passionate about community, sustainability, and active travel. A job share or flexible hours may be considered depending on the experience and availability of the applicants. The role is a self-employed contract for 12 months starting from the date of appointment.

To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter explaining:

  • Why you're interested in this role

  • What skills and experience you can bring to help Wheels of Fleet grow into a self-funded, inclusive cycling project

  • Closing date for applications: 30 June 2025

  • Interviews: Early July 2025

Amazing Galloway

Galloway, in southwest Scotland, is a tapestry of breathtaking beauty stitched together by nature's hand. Rugged coastlines give way to rolling hills cloaked in emerald forests, where sparkling lochs reflect the ever-changing sky.

This land whispers of ancient history, with standing stones and crumbling castles standing as silent sentinels. Wildlife thrives here – red deer roam the glens, eagles soar high above, and seals bask on sun-drenched rocks. It's a land for adventurers, where hiking trails wind through wild landscapes and mountain biking routes offer exhilarating thrills.

Galloway is a place where you can lose yourself in the rhythm of nature and find a sense of awe that lingers long after you leave.
